Filter of Tomorrow: Open House at ITM Poland
Source from:TJI  07/01/2010
ITM Poland opens the doors to its brand new filter technology centre between 17 and 27 May 2010.

ITM Poland, part of Dutch tobacco machinery manufacturing company ITM Group, has recently built a new filter technology centre dedicated to the development and manufacture of advanced filter equipment; furthermore, it will provide test facilities for customers who want to develop new filter products. To celebrate this milestone, one-day, open house events are being organised between 17 May and 27 May 2010 at ITM Poland's location in Radom, an industrial town one hour south of Warsaw. The theme of the open house is "The filter of tomorrow" and highlights two different aspects; first, tomorrow's tobacco market requires new types of filters, with specifications that go beyond what current equipment can deliver. Second, the filter production line of the future must become much more flexible to meet the demands of a highly diversified market.

Both aspects will be covered during the open house, where a live demonstration will be given of a full production line for multi-segment filters. The line includes the new Polaris-C charcoal filter maker, the MoniQ filter sampling system, the Gemini tray filler, the Taurus C and Gemini unloaders, the Pulsar FIFO (first in, first out) filter reservoir and the Solaris multi-filter combiner. During the live demonstrations, ITM will demonstrate how changes between different filter production runs can be made in less than half an hour. Another part of the demonstrations shows how filter rod logistics and distribution can be optimised, using the Gemini compartment tray handling system, the CSI automatic rod storage system and the Flexlink mass flow rod transportation system.

Apart from the main theme of the open house, ITM will be showing other recent innovations and developments, such as the Atlas tobacco cutter, which, according to ITM, provides one per cent savings of tobacco; the Delphi tobacco reclaimer, which is specifically adapted to future filter types, with special provisions to prevent the contamination of the reclaimed tobacco by new materials like charcoal; the flexible tobacco feeding system offering a rapid tobacco blend change; and FPP pouch packing and a high-speed manipulator, offering innovative packing of snus products, the company claims.
