Taxes on locally-produced cigarettes and liquor have been slashed in Myanmar while taxes on imports have been increased, according to a story in The Myanmar Times quoting a government official.
The tax changes, which have not been widely publicised, took effect on June 1, said U Tun Than, a staff officer of Yangon Division's Internal Revenue Department, which is under the Ministry of Finance and Revenue.
Under the changes, tax rates on locally produced cigarettes have been cut from 75 per cent to 50 per cent, while imported cigarettes are being taxed at 100 per cent. Enditem |
