Taxi drivers in Seoul could be fined up to WON1.2 million if they are caught smoking in their cabs, according to a story in the Korea Herald.
The city banned smoking in all taxis in November but the order was not backed by punitive measures and it has proved ineffectual.
But a new ordinance to be announced next month will introduce "extreme measures", according to an unnamed city official.
As well as facing the prospects of being fined, taxi drivers who refuse to pay fines or who delay payment could have their licenses suspended.
At the same time, the revised health law, which is to take effect on August 28, will set a maximum fine of WON100,000 for those caught smoking in non-smoking areas. Enditem |
